What is Hyundai Hope on Wheels?

Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a national effort to help find the cure that will end childhood cancer. September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and the automaker is leading the push to help put these awful diseases behind us.

A History Rooted in Hope

What started from humble beginnings has now become a national movement. Our organization was established in 1998 after a group of New England Hyundai dealers decided to band together to aid in a local effort to support pediatric cancer research. Following this early funding effort, the nonprofit Hyundai Hope On Wheels organization was born. Today, Hyundai is proud to be one of the largest private fundraisers that support the efforts of research facilities, innovative doctors, and other organizations committed to finding a cure.

How Do We Spread Hope?

Our nonprofit organization helps facilitate donations to innovative doctors and cutting-edge research techniques through the over 800 Hyundai dealerships that are committed to supporting our cause. Every time my Hyundai vehicle is sold, a donation is made by both the dealership and Hyundai. To date, our efforts have enabled us to collect and donate over $200 million in funding, making us one of the largest private funders of pediatric cancer research in the nation.

Funds are donated through grants to research facilities, doctors, and other organizations that are just as committed to helping childhood cancer as Hyundai is. Grants are awarded to qualifying applicants and can range anywhere from $50,000 to $1 million dollars. Innovative ideas, problem-solving, and unwavering efforts will be the reason why one-day childhood cancer will be a thing of the past.

Hyundai is also committed to educating the public about childhood cancer and how it impacts the lives of children on a daily basis. For example, every 36 minutes, a child is diagnosed with some form of childhood cancer.

It’s intentional efforts like this to educate the public that will help drive awareness for the cause and encourage funding efforts to support researchers that will inevitably one day find the cure. After all, cures are the result of research, and research is the direct result of funding.

Meet the National Youth Ambassadors

Hyundai’s National YouthAmbassadors are another critical component of our organization. Every two years, Our organization recognizes a brave childhood cancer survivor and appoints them as our National Youth Ambassador.

The youth ambassadors help tell the story of the organizations and what they do. They are living inspiration that helps drive the cause every single day. They are the reason Hyundai Hope on Wheels continues its efforts day in and day out and are the reason why someday, childhood cancers will be eradicated through continued research funding.

Hyundai Hope on Wheels is symbolized by colorful handprints that represent all the stakeholders in cancer research support. The major stakeholders, the children who battle these cancer diagnoses, are the future of our world and are represented through this global symbol of hope.
